Laguna Niguel Engagement Photographers

Hi,

Julie and I had the opportunity to photograph a cool engagement session at Laguna Niguel with Nas and Gartzen. We had a relaxing time just enjoying the scenery and taking casual pictures at random locations in Laguna Beach. Orange County (OC) has loads of neat places to visit.

The following images was taken on a patch of grass near the coastline of Laguna Niguel.

Grrrrr!

Nas wore some really cool shoes during this engagement session!

This sign originally said "Bank of America Customers Only," but I decided to alter it to their names instead.

While looking for a spot that overlooks Laguna Beach, we stumbled across this nice banister that has a nice message. Wanting to give more attention to the text, I decided to keep the image a silhouette.

Directly following this engagement session, we drove to Seven Degrees where Nas and Gartzen hosted their beautiful engagement party! That place is known for their gorgeous lighting.

UCLA Engagement Photography

Howdy,

Doug and I had the chance to work with a neat couple with fresh perspectives of what they wanted for their engagement photographs. Since Liang (the snazzy groom-to-be) graduated from UCLA and Dee (the sassy bride-to-be) is doing her PhD at UCLA, they decided to conduct their engagement session at UCLA and Santa Monica Pier. Since I graduated from North Campus, Dee and Liang showed me a lot of cool places in South Campus that I never knew! One example would be the rooftop of Boelter Hall! Anyway, enjoy the images!

"I have always wanted to sit on the bear..." chided Liang, so I clasped my hands together to give Liang a boost up the bear!

ucla engagement photography

This is one of my favorite images. It has a very nostalgic feel to the image because of the lined desks in the classroom. I especially love the light that poured in through the blinds. Absolutely delightful!

ucla engagement photography

For those who are not familiar with UCLA, this is called the "Inverted Fountain" because (hopefully the name gives it away) the fountain is inverted.

ucla engagement photography

We had Liang jump off the stairs of Powell Library.

ucla engagement photography

Then vice versa...

ucla engagement photography

"Piggy back rides are too played out, it's all about the wheelbarrow," claimed Liang. What started as a wheelbarrow became a "walking-my-dog" type of activity - definitely unorthodox.

ucla engagement photography

What a cute dog! It looks like a stuffed animal!

And here are some Santa Monica Beach randomness...

It was a nippy morning, but we made due with the weather. The sun peeped out here and there, so we had moments of warmth. Their wedding should be awesome, so stay tuned for more posts.

Disney Concert Hall Engagement Photography

Good morning,

Sorry Jennifer and Jack - I am slow to post on my blog :) In any event, Doug and I had the pleasure of working with Jennifer and Jack on their engagement photography session last weekend. We started at Old Town Pasadena, but quickly moved to another location because the security claimed that we could not take pictures there, which I found extremely odd because I always photograph there under a few "conditions" - (photographers take notes)

1. This is not for commercial purposes
2. It is for my personal portfolio
3. No tripod

As long as you make these claims, you may photograph almost anywhere [without permit]. Another example would be yesterday's wedding. The couple wanted to take pictures at a park and I was approached by a park ranger about the same situation. The aforementioned excuses worked like a charm.

Anyway, we started at Old Town Pasadena, but were asked to leave five minutes into the photo session. With no rustic brick backgrounds, we decided to photograph on the street intersection! Old Town Pasadena has some cool four-way crosswalks that halt all traffic from every direction, so we quickly frolicked to the center of the street and photographed. While Doug was taking pictures, I was holding up a remote flash to fill in the shadows all while nervously yelling out the seconds left until traffic reconvened.

"6, 5, 4, 3, 2, run!!!!"

old town pasadena engagement pictures

The end result was well worth it! Doug tried to crop out all of the cars to put more emphasis on our cute subjects.

Having had enough risque pictures for one day, we trekked down to Green Street [towards our parking garage] where it was a little more quiet. We stopped in front of a grungy door, which provided a nice textural backdrop.

old town pasadena engagement pictures

Having some trouble smiling in front of the camera, Jennifer lent a hand...literally HAHA

old town pasadena engagement pictures

To help remind Jennifer and Jack remember where they got to play with the Furious Photographers, we picked out a newsstand that said "Pasadena" on the bottom.

old town pasadena engagement pictures

Right across the street Doug found a bridal dress store. Wanting to do a playful shot, Doug posed the following image. However, it took the wackiness of these two to play it off well.

old town pasadena engagement pictures

Before returning to our cars for another location, we decided to swing by the park on the south side of Old Town Pasadena (next to Castle Green) where we rolled around on the grass and played with leaves!

This picture personifies true love! :) <3

Since it was such a hot day, we decided to swing by Coffee Bean before heading to Walt Disney Concert Hall to conclude our engagement session.

Doug and I got to Walt Disney Concert Hall a little bit early and met a group of singers! It was totally awesome! These cool cats are called "Augies Side Effect." We asked the group to sing some songs for Jennifer and Jack to practice their first dance. They kindly obliged :D

The following is one of my favorite images for the day! The sheen of the metallic walls gave it a nice neutral feel.

disney concert hall engagement pictures

Since the following image was back lit, I had two options -

1. Compensate the background lighting with a flash
2. Wash out the details (riskier)

Feeling risky all day, I opted for the latter. We even joked that the picture looks like a cover for a Korean drama series haha

disney concert hall engagement pictures

While I went to pull the car around, Doug decided to have a little more fun before our day ended.

What a fun day! I imagine their wedding to be even more fun!

Signing out,

Newport Beach Engagement Photography

Hello,

Flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, what is there not to like about Spring? Doug and I photographed a funky couple - Kim and Edgar - at Newport Beach (near Corona Del Mar). This beach is a quiet retreat where Kim always goes to when she needs to escape the daily rat race.

Newport Beach is also a great location for whale watching! Unfortunately, we did not see any whales. Instead, lots of dolphins greeted the couple near the coastline! They were surprisingly close! I do not have a super long telephoto lens so you can imagine how close they were if you see the picture below. This part of Newport Beach was so beautiful during the morning. I can see why they called it "Inspiration Point."

Look at that! They were all playing!

Check out the morning glow!

For some reason, I was thinking of Bay Watch (the television series) and I thought of this pose. Don't ask - I have no clue.

Haha I thought this was hilarious!

Anyway, check back soon because we just photographed a UCLA wedding last Saturday where Joe Bruin (UCLA's mascot) himself showed up! Ahhhhh!

Abalone Cove Shoreline Park Engagement Photography

Good day,

I am actually updating this post on time! *pats self* Yesterday we had the opportunity to photograph an animated couple - Melissa and Michael - at the absolutely majestic Abalone Cove in Palos Verdes (Southern California). Despite the cold weather and light rain, the two of them braved the elements with only jeans and dress shirts! As for myself, I donned a heavy wool coat and thermals underneath.

Aside from the beautiful view and fresh air, Abalone Cove Shoreline Park also has nice hiking trails for those interested in light exercise. In any event, we started our session with them at the parking lot where there were some poles. Less than five minutes into the engagement session, Michael already showed his wild side.

Michael does anything to make Melissa smile. :) Anyway, the shoreline has a lot of vibrant wild flowers and greenery as seen below.

Griffith Observatory Engagement Photography

Hello all,

Luz and Jeff graced us with the opportunity to photograph their engagement session at the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles.

Griffith Observatory
2800 East Observatory Road
Los Angeles, CA 90027
General Information Line: 213-473-0800

The Griffith Observatory has a breathtaking view of the city and the stars during the night. For those looking for a quiet retreat from the rat race called life, I recommend going there without reserve.

Pasadena Engagement Photography

Hello,

Yesterday Doug and I had the opportunity to work with Andrew and Alisa. These two were sweethearts since junior high school. After much patience, they decided to tie the knot! The following are some pictures photographed during their engagement session at Pasadena.

Sharing the love ~ XOXO

While in Old Town Pasadena, Doug coaxed the employees at Johnny Rockets to let us take pictures there. They even offered Alisa and Andrew hats! How cool is that? The first one we gave it a warm and nostalgic feel to the picture.

Pasadena Engagement Photography

This juxtaposed image maintains the sterile feel of Johnny Rockets. Personally, I like both of them!

Pasadena Engagement Photography

The generous staff at Johnny Rockets even whipped up their signature Chocolate Malt for us to use as a prop, which Alisa and Andrew enjoyed. Since Doug and I are lactose intolerant, we declined. :(

Pasadena Engagement Photography

Cute!

Andrew suggested to take a respite with her lying on his lap. We obliged by still clicking away.

We ended our session with a fun picture with the parking mirrors near where we parked.

Downtown Disney Engagement Photography

The Furious Photographers and our wedding photography workshop participants had the opportunity to photograph Sharon and Derek's engagement photography session at Downtown Disney in Anaheim. This animated couple frolicked around while we photographed.

Some simple portraits against a solid colored wall!

This is in the midst of their frolicking! I love the expression from the passerby :)

While taking a respite, we decided to take advantage of the opportunity. This aerial view lends a different feel to the picture.

downtown disney engagement photography

Just a simple smile! :)

...and more smiles!

Sharon and Derek decided to add some flair to their pictures by not refraining themselves in front of the camera. Although unconventional, the two of them could not resist being themselves. On the other end of the lens, I could not resist clicking away!

downtown disney engagement photography

The key to a woman's heart is love. And diamonds are the best ways to express it. Conversely, the key to a man's heart is food - as expressed with Derek's Krispy Kreme Doughnut. I kid, I kid. Sharon and Derek were generous enough to purchase us a dozen donuts for snack, but we decided to use them as props instead.

Los Angeles Union Station Engagement Photography

Dear audience,

I apologize for the delay in postings. One of my new year's resolutions is to be more updated har har

Without further adieu, I present to you Patti and Matt's engagement photography session. They are due to get married in January so they decided to get some vintage pictures taken at the beautiful Metro Union Station in Los Angeles. We started around 2pm so the sun would give us a nice warm yellow glow.

During the photography session, Patti and Matt requested for some artistic poses, so we cranked out a picture fit for a Sketchers' ad (left). =)

union station engagement picture

Hugs and kisses are encouraged during engagement photography sessions. However, butt grabbing warrants a spot on our blog as well.

union station engagement picture

CHARGE!

union station engagement picture

This is something new that Doug and I were trying - combining shadows with subjects to create a picture with a nice message. We experimented with a number of them, but the following is a good sample of what I am trying to say.

union station engagement picture

This is the nice yellow light I was talking about! Not too harsh, yet it lends a nice glow to the subjects when used as a back light.

union station engagement picture

A fun picture fitting the fun couple. Although it took Matt several attempts, the outcome was well worth it!

union station engagement picture

I hope everyone enjoyed the images. Stay tuned for our next post because it is of a cool Indian wedding with some graphic manipulations.

Happy holidays,

Lawrence

Palos Verdes Engagement Photography

Mindy and David's Engagement Photography
Rancho Palos Verdes - Wedding Photography in upper post ^_^

First off, sorry for the lack of posts. Alas, with work and school and etc., not all events will be posted and on time.

Anyway, we had the opportunity to offer Mindy and David engagement photography services. They were a lovely couple to work with. You will see their wedding photographs in another post.

We started our engagement photography session at a cool lighthouse that we saw along the Rancho Palos Verdes coast.
